As an inherently crafty person, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on our newly added line of Paperboard Containers. These natural toned cardboard tubes and jars are gorgeous as-is, but the possibilities for decoration and embellishment sparked my creative curiosity right away.
You can decorate these simple containers with pretty much anything you might use to work with paper or cardstock. That means that all of my favorite art supplies are fair game. Crafty essentials, like watercolor paints, rubber stamps, and wash tapes, are perfect for adding a unique and handcrafted vibe to paperboard packaging.
One of the easiest ways to embellish paperboard is by decorating it with stickers, decals, or washi tape. Washi tape comes in so many fun colors and patterns. This makes it easy to add simple detail to your products. An added bonus to using washi tape is that it can double as a fastener for lids!
Hand painting can be used to add a dramatic effect, like this rainbow pattern, or simple detailing such as patterns of dashes, dots, or stripes. If you are adept at hand lettering or calligraphy, that opens up a whole other world of pretty possibilities!
By far, my favorite way to embellish paperboard is with rubber stamps. Pattern mats offer an easy way to apply beautiful patterns on small batches. This offers an alternative to professionally printed containers for decorating small runs of product or making handmade gifts.
You can also use statement stamps to add details one stamp at a time. Round stamps are especially pretty when used to top containers. I paired a round stamp with gold washi tape to decorate this 1 Ounce Paperboard Jar.
